Shaking Hands is a correspondence service that reconnects incarcerated individuals with members of society through intentional letter writing.

Visitors can view profiles and choose who they want to correspond with, creating purposeful, human connection beyond prison walls.

This program reduces isolation, encourages growth, and supports rehabilitation through consistent communication.

Connection is the first step to change.

How to connect with Inmates

Step 1: Browse Profiles

Review the available inmate profiles. Each profile includes background details, interests, and approved contact information.

Step 2: Choose Who You Want to Connect With

Select the individual you feel aligned with. This is an intentional decision shared values, curiosity, or lived experience.

Step 3: Review Contact Instructions

Each profile lists approved methods of contact. This may include:

Mailing address for written letters

Prison-approved messaging platforms (if applicable)

Only use the contact methods provided.

Step 4: Initiate Contact in Writing

Send a respectful, thoughtful letter or message. Introduce yourself clearly and state your intention to connect through the Shaking Hands Program.
